Finding books, tapes/cd's, movies/dvd's, workbooks - of the Self
Empowerment, Metaphysical & Spiritual nature - in English - in
Costa Rica - isn't very easy, hence why the birth of this Lending
Library!
Unity Costa Rica has been asked to start something for awhile but it
takes time & they're busy supporting the community in soooo many
other ways! The House of Self Empowerment already had a resource
library with LOTS of these kinds of tools & is located in such an
ULTRA convenient & MAGICAL location - it just seemed natural to
merge these two groups!!
Currently we have OVER 1,500 (with a few hundred more to input!!!)
resources available to support your growth/for your pleasure!!!
Stop in & brows through our resources, pic a book & go lay in a
hammock or let "Grandmother Willow" envelope you in her wise roots!
Bring your laptop & work off our calm patio surrounded by birds,
squirrels, a creek & trees! Create your own Tea Party from our
basket of Gourmet & Organic Teas or a good from our Convenience
Basket. Chill/take a nap in one of the many hammocks around the grounds
in between appointments or take a break from work or the family - YOUR
TIME!! Bring a friend by & place Scrabble, Monopoly, Chess on our
orange & green Chess Set, cards or one of th e many games! Sit in
the Well-Being Sanctuary & listen to the tranquil fountain as
meditate or do the Chi Machine. Borrow one of the Foot Baths &
bring your goodies or purchase one of our Pampering Packets & give
yourself a Pedicure/manicure. Borrow a walkman & listen to one of
the MANY Self Empowerment messages (we ALL can use reminders every now
& then can't we!!!).

Bear with us as we’re still formulating this new project & merger
between the two groups but here’s what we’re looking at so far (open
for change):
WHAT TYPE OF RESOURCES DOES THE SELF EMPOWERMENT / SPIRITUAL LENDING LIBRARY HAVE?
The focus of the sources available is #1 - SELF EMPOWERMENT,
metaphysics, as well as Spirituality! We have LOTS of “self help” types
of books, books on tape, workshop manuals, cd’s, dvd’s, games (ok – so
the games aren’t “self empowerment” but they are FUN which IS part of
empowering yourself!! We have things like cards, Backgammon, Scrabble,
Yahtzee, Monopoly, Twister, Trivial Pursuit, Pictionary, Who Wants to
Be a Millionaire, Outburst, Scrupples & even Dance Maker! Bring a
friend over or jump into a pick-up game!)!
Thanx to Kati – we have one of the largest/most complete collections of Course in Miracles books & tapes!
Want to do your own Vision Board / Manifestation Board? We have LOTS of magazines you can borrow!!!
IS THERE A MEMBERSHIP FEE TO JOIN THIS LENDING LIBRARY?
We’re asking a donation of 5,000 colones Annual Membership Fee that you pay your first visit.
Money tight? Do not let that hold you back. What can YOU do to gift
back/share? Donations of all sorts are welcome including your time!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
First you Join.
Next, IDEALLY, for every item you take out, we’d love it if you gifted/donated back an (or more!!) item for the library OR . .
Don’t have any Self Empowerment/Spiritual-oriented tools to share? The House of Self Empowerment is home to GRACIAS COSTA RICA http://GraciasCostaRica.com)
- A group that’s been started to encourage tourists & people like
us blessed enough to live in Costa Rica! You’re welcome to bring other
donations to contribute to Gracias Costa Rica – clothes, food,
medicine, school supplies, toys, furniture – whatever (in working
condition)!
WHERE DOES THE MONEY COLLECTED FROM THE MEMBERSHIP GO?
10% of the membership collected will be gifted back to Unity Costa Rica
& another 10% gifted to Gracias Costa Rica. The balance collected
will go to help refresh our lending library with new material & any
operating expenses.
HOW CAN I HELP:
We need people to:
• Collect boxes, help box up books at Unity in Piedades de Santa Ana
&/or bring them down to The House of SELF Empowerment in Escazu.
• Help organize them by category (as of now it’s going to be more of an
honor system without some technical lending system/cataloging!)
• We would LOVE to have more resources (we welcome you to write a note inside saying who’s Gifting it!!)
• Anyone have some shelves sitting around that you’re not using? How
about some wood to build a few? Can you make shelves? We could help in
all those areas!
IF I HELP/DONATE WHAT CAN I RECEIVE?
An EMPOWERING question – if you’re giving, it’s POSITIVE energy to RECEIVE!
For every hour you volunteer, you get $2 off your membership &/or don’t have to donate an item!
HOW MANY THINGS CAN I CHECK OUT AT ONE TIME?
Up to 5
HOW LONG CAN I KEEP THINGS OUT?
Depending on the item – anywhere from 2 days (popular dvd's/movies/games/hotter/more popular items!) to 4 weeks.
ARE ALL RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO BORROW?
Most are but we do have some popular resources that either must stay at
the House of Self Empowerment (you’re welcome to hang & read/listen
to or watch!) or some items we may lend out with a higher refundable
deposit.
ARE THE BOOKS IN ENGLISH &/OR SPANISH?
Most books are in English though our intention is to have more in Spanish (that’s where YOUR donations are helpful!!)

The House of Self Empowerment is a magical, tranquil oasis located on
nearly 2 acres of lush tropical foliage with lots of hammocks &
patios for you to hang out on & enjoy!!

WHAT IF I HAVE OTHER NON-SELF EMPOWERMENT/SPIRITUAL BOOKS TO DONATE?
Twice a year Gracias Costa Rica will do a book sale where other books
will be donated & funds raised will go towards various charitable
causes on an as-needed basis.
Once we find someone to donate or build a bookcase, we’ll leave those
books outside of the House of Self Empowerment for people to take
(though we encourage you to bring some books to replace them with –
sharin’ / giving back!).
WHAT ARE THE HOURS?
Because we're also a guest house, your host is around most days between
10am & 6pm BUT, because the House of Self Empowerment has other

WHERE IS THE HOUSE OF SELF EMPOWERMENT LOCATED?
We’re ultra-conveniently located in Escazu (San Rafael) - ON Calle
Vieja – near Calle Country Club! An EASY one bus ride on the Santa
Ana-Calle Vieja blue bus that leaves San Jose from the Coca-Cola Bus
Terminal Downtown! Because we’re a private home, on a private quinta so
for our safety & that of our neighbors, we only give exact
directions to those that contact us directly.

Led by Juan Enrique Toro, Unity is a wonderful Spiritual Community that
meets in Piedades de Santa Ana (Sundays at 9:30am in Spanish & 11am
in English) as well as a Saturday Spanish service in San Pedro.

HOUSE OF SELF EMPOWERMENT
The HOUSE OF SELF EMPOWERMENT has many spaces you’re welcome to come
chill including lots of hammocks to just hang in & read a book or
connect as well as Space Available for Meetings / Study Groups as well
as for Workshops & Retreats as well as have numerous Holistic
Wellness Practitioners seeing their clients here so you can also
schedule a massage or other treatment!
